Fieldcraft

Fieldcraft? Huh? Making things in the field? Not exactly.

The enemy is looking for you. There is often only one thing that you can do - hide!

When we refer to fieldcraft, we normally relate it to greens activities, which is basically wearing British Mi-

litary DPM (Disruptive Pattern Material) to camouflage ourselves with the surrounds and landscape. It is the ability to "blend in," and because of the colouring of the clothing you are wearing, it is possible to lie flat on the grass without being spotted.

Fieldcraft involves movements, camouflaging techniques, hand signals for silent communication and teamwork. You will learn the different stances and crawls, and how to evade the enemy where possible.

When you have developed your skills and understanding to a certain level, you can organise a team, or squad, and command them to gather certain information in a twilight exercise. Generally these are purely for fun, but build up self confidence, teamworking and leadership skills.

But not only this, Fieldcraft also teaches you how to survive in the field. You will explore the different techniques of sleeping, eating and simply keeping yourself warm, all vital things and keys to survival.
