The Air Training Corps is part of the Air Cadet Organisation. It is made up of over 35,000 Cadets and over 10,000 Adult Staff. You can even get flights in RAF Fast Jets |
Being a Youth Military Organization, it is a uniformed organization, and it is expected that you can keep to the certain standards set.
But even if you don't want to be in the Forces, the ATC offers many activities to all those wanting fun and to be challenged, with equal opportunities for all.
In the ATC, you will definately build on your friendship, leadership, communication, confidence and teamworking skills. You will also be mixing with people from different backgrounds and experiences, and be able to develop a good attitude. Whether it be helping a friend over a 12 foot wall on the Assault Course (now called the Confidence Course!), or leading a group of people in the Drill Team, there are many activities to suit anyone!
So then, what will you be doing as an air cadet?
It's a long list, and the possibilities are endless. You will almost definately experience the thrill of flying an aircraft yourself, possibly extending your abilities and experiencing aerobatics, have the opportunity to fire a rifle, take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, which looks very good on application forms for any job these days! You can also visit Bases, go skiing, parachuting, partake in sports (football, rugby, hockey; to name a few), and compete against everybody else in competitions.
 |
We also take part in charity work and get involved with the local community |
You will also have the opportunity to give back to the community, doing charity work and helping in bag packs, which can be used to purchase new equipment for your squadron.
Ultimately, the Air Training Corps is what you make it. One thing is certain, you will gain in the ATC vital skills which will benefit you in military or civilian life.
